We encounter Jack and Wendy traveling up the mountain at the beginning of the film. In this instance, jacks MIRROR is STANLEY (wild eye brows, hair, except face trimmed for a job) and Wendy's MIRROR is CHRISTIANE (personal style & clothing similarities).
When we reach the hotel we meet Mr. Stuart Ullman.
Mr. Ullmans MIRROR is JFK (this can be seen by the flag on the desk, blue jacket, hair, composure)
If we interpret these characters as their MIRROR counterparts we can deduce that STANLEY has arrived at the hotel and is meeting with JFK. Wendy is not present. This is mans business.
Who is the man with STANLEY?
A worker for JFK who leaves and plays no role.
But what is STANLEY here for?
A job to be the caretaker of the HOTEL.
The HOTEL too has a MIRROR... and that MIRROR is The United States of America (The President at the time being JFK)
We can deduce that the HOTEL stands on a native american burial ground (artifacts, calamut, decor). This represents early America.
The HOTEL represents NEW America that has conquered and slaughtered the natives ("a lot of things happened here not all of them good")(constant nightmares)
But STANLEY has taken a job to be the CARETAKE of AMERICA by JFK.
But to deduce what type of job AMERICA requires we have to follow some clues and their MIRROR counterparts.
