Saturn V Got Us To the Moon, and Then Disappeared. There are a lot of stories about why NASA’s most powerful rocket disappeared from the line up of launch vehicles. Especially considering it was one of man-kinds greatest achievements. Some propose that NASA didn’t want to pay for a storage unit to keep all the relevant files. Others suggest that the US government was so desperate to kill Apollo that the records were destroyed. 📍 The specialized factories, custom tools, and human manufacturing skills required to build a new Saturn V rocket are permanently gone.

The Apollo 11 missing tapes were those that were recorded from Apollo 11's slow-scan television (SSTV) telecast in its raw format on telemetry data tape at the time of the first Moon landing in 1969 and subsequently lost. The data tapes were used to record all transmitted data, video as well as telemetry, for backup. 📍 Today these 📼 tapes are being restored by taking the television telecast (not the original film negatives) and using AI to restore them (and hide the seams).
