In 2013, former President Barack Obama announced the 🧠 BRAIN Initiative with Francis Collins, which aimed to develop tools for understanding and controlling brain function. Francis Collins is an American physician-scientist who discovered the genes associated with a number of diseases and led the Human Genome Project. He served as the Director of the National Human Genome 🧬 Research Institute. Dr. Francis Collins and Dr. Anthony Fauci were longtime professional colleagues, collaborators, and close friends. Most notably, from 2009 to 2021, Dr. Collins served as the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), making him the direct supervisor of Dr. Fauci, who led the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
