📼📄 The provided materials explore the capabilities and risks of brain interface technologies, particularly optogenetics and DREADDs (Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs). These technologies can manipulate neuronal activity remotely.

DREADDs allow scientists to activate or deactivate neurons without implanting anything in the brain, raising concerns about potential misuse.

Optogenetics, involves using light-sensitive proteins (opsins) extracted from plants to manipulate neuronal activity. mRNA platforms could enable remote control of neuronal activity via light pulses, potentially disrupting the brain's interception pathways.

These technologies could be delivered through viral vectors. The potential for optogenetics to be included in mRNA platforms also raises concerns about biosecurity vulnerabilities.

Concerns arise that these technologies could interfere with free will and be used for remote observation or behavioral manipulation.

📝 Notes: In 2013, former President Barack Obama announced the BRAIN Initiative, which aimed to develop tools for understanding and controlling brain function.
